Hot Tip – remembering symbols

If you struggle with remembering which of these symbols do what, these little tricks might help you to remember them in future.

1. Greater than and Less than < > or > <

< - means LESS than – if you try really hard it looks a bit like an L on an angle, and LESS begins with L.  Get the connection?

> - means GREATER than – it doesn’t look like an L, in any shape or form.

2. Forward slash or Backward slash / \ / \ / \ / \

While programmers and developers would never get their slashes confused, it’s surprising the number of lay people who struggle with their slashes. A wee trick is to visualise a foot on the bottom of the slash…
