QEII National Trust Website Design Project

QEII National Trust - Open Space New Zealand is a not-for-profit organisation. It has been set up to assist in the covenanting of land across New Zealand. The QEII National Trust predominantly targets farmers, landowners and councils often operating through rural internet connections.

The QEII National Trust has been using MoST as their Content Management System for a number of years now and over that time, the library of information within the website has grown substantially. QEII National Trust realised that the website would now be required to support more growth and also the NEW needs of the organisation. These included a donations page, a gallery for all their wonderful photos and a password protected area for staff. This meant the design, structure and navigation of the website needed to be updated to cater for the future needs of the organisation and its members.

To begin with, QEII National Trust and Expert Developments discussed the current and future needs of the website. After all bases were covered, Expert worked closely with QEII National Trust on the new website structure (sitemap) to make sure all the information and tools were included in the website and grouped in a logical/useful way. Restructuring the website was an important step in the process and helped to create a logical navigation path. This new navigation would then make it easy for users to find what they were looking for in such a large library of information.

Once the restructure for the website was finalised, Expert moved into the design stage of the redesign process. The design concepts showed how the website could promote donations from members and the general public. It also promoted new membership with a large “Join” button. Each section of the website was given its own colour palate to assist viewers with navigating the site and in turn giving a dynamic feeling to the design.

The new website is a step into the future for The QEII National Trust. It allows QEII National Trust to grow, provide essential information to their membership and the general public as well as the ability to communicate the valuable work they undertake for New Zealand. View the new website here.
